Junior Eashan Samak recently sent us photos from a visit to Turkey. In his words, he describes his impressions of the country. "Three summers ago I was fortunate enough to visit Turkey on a 2-week long exchange program. Even though I have traveled internationally before, it was the first time I went to a place where East literally meets West in terms of culture. The very European culture of the west blends seamlessly with Middle Eastern and Arab cultures of the east."
"The story of Turkey continue beneath the streets of Istanbul. The Yerebatan Cistern (also known as the Basilica Cistern) is a reminder of the amazing engineering might of the Byzantine Empire." The Inferno, anyone? | "Inside the Hagia Sophia. Initially the center of Orthodox Christianity, it was converted to a grand mosque under the Ottoman Empire. Images of Jesus Christ and his disciples juxtaposed with Arab script is a reminder of the melting pot that is Turkey." |
