Austin Hou recently came back from a visit to South America...amazing.
Looks like the United Arab Emirates was a popular destination this winter. The map above is of Qatar, a country close to the UAE. Tonia Wang just sent us more awesome photos from both countries. We've compiled them into two slideshows: one with city imagery, and one with all the rest of the beautiful countryside, desert, and temples. This is the time of the famous kite festival in Ahmedabad, India. Everyone in the city takes to their roofs for the festival, flying small paper kites and big elaborate kites. The entire sky is filled with these kites as far as the eye can see. Whitney Wilson shared her photos from the United Arab Emirates with us. The desert pictures were taken in Dubai and the pictures of the white mosque were taken in Abu Dhabi at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Oh the places you'll go! Freshman Josh Sheldon spent the night at the Grand Canyon, shooting an absolutely breathtaking timelapse. And by spent the night, we meant camped on the ledge. Of the Grand Canyon. As Josh says on his blog, Do Things, "Considering that [the Grand Canyon] probably would have a very low light pollution level, I imaged that it would be even better at night, under the stars. And so, I decided to take the opportunity to spend the night on the rim of the Grand Canyon to take a timelapse depicting the full movement of the stars from sunset to sunrise." Below the video are photos that help explain how he managed to get this footage. For the full story, visit Josh's blog at http://dothings.weebly.com/. These are photos taken by Andrew Roberts of the most recent GEOG 328B: Geography of the Southern Caribbean course. This took 25 Terps to the Caribbean on one of the world's largest clipper ships to study the region's geography and its impact on the culture, lifestyle, tourism and local economies. Students also studied the history of the region and how its geographical properties influenced its inhabitants & visitors. The course is taught by Joe Trocino. Thanks, Andrew! Thanks again to Ari for sharing her amazingly creative photos and video of her study abroad experience to Barcelona. Barcelona Documentary II from AriJazmin on Vimeo. The backwater canals of Alappuzha (Alleppey), India connect Vembanadu Lake to the Arabian Sea. We traveled by houseboat, in and out of canals and by small village communities. I would sit for hours just watching the scenery and reading a good Jane Austen book. Our crew was extremely hospitable, even taking us to the fish market to pick dinner!
Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the most famous places in Croatia. The park is made up of sixteen lakes connected by a series of breathtaking waterfalls. Miles of plank pathways wind over waterfalls and around the mountains and lakes.
